Brayleigh looks nothing like she did when we rescued her a few years ago. This Aussie mix was found roaming the streets of Texas. She had massive skin and ear infections, hardly any fur, and was blind and deaf. But Brayleigh is a big-time survivor. After months of medicated baths, immunotherapy injections, double knee surgery, and heartworm treatment, she began to recover.
Ethan is deaf and blind. He was adopted as a puppy to a wonderful home, but sometimes things happen. His parents broke up and neither was able to keep Ethan, so he was returned to us. The transition was not an easy one for him. He is on medication for OCD and he doesn’t like any other dogs except for the ones in his foster home.
Sweet Wilbur and his brother Wally came to Speak! as tiny puppies several years ago. Wally, who is deaf and slightly vision impaired, quickly found an amazing home. But Wilbur, who is completely blind and deaf, never found his forever family.
Over time, Wilbur developed OCD and has had to take regular medications. With his continued challenges, it became more and more difficult to even have anyone consider adding this sweet but challenging pup to their home.
Jeydon came from a hoarding situation where he lived in a trailer home with nearly 20 dogs. All of the dogs were extremely unsocialized and could not be touched. He was with another rescue but he bounced between fosters. He couldn’t be crated and became so stressed that he was prescribed loads of anti-anxiety medication.
Starla’s story is so heartbreaking. On Christmas eve, several years ago, we welcomed Starla in our rescue. This completely blind and deaf tiny puppy was found in the snow by a UPS delivery driver who was working hard delivering packages. It’s a miracle he spotted her at all. Starla was likely dumped because of her disabilities, and she was taken away from her mom and siblings way too soon.
Tango and his littermates came to us a couple of years ago. All three pups are vision and hearing impaired, but his siblings were adopted. We are not sure why Tango still hasn’t found his forever family. Tango is sweet, loving, and snuggly. He's also incredibly fun and playful and full of personality. While he may be vision and hearing impaired, it doesn’t stop him from being independent and being a very busy boy who likes to know what’s going on at all times.
Gabriel was an extra passenger when we were rescuing a tripod pup in a rural overcrowded shelter. The shelter asked if we’d please take this dog that had been seriously injured after being hit by a car. The impact broke his leg and caused his eye to pop out.
It’s been over a year now since his trauma and Gabriel is healed.
Nancy is a cattle dog who came to us about three years ago. We were concerned because she had weakness in her back legs, trouble with her vision, and a high-stepping walk. Turns out she has hydrocephalus, but it’s been pretty easily managed with help from over-the-counter medicine.
Nancy would just love to sit on someone’s lap and be cuddled all the time.
